We traveled to see this concert, and it was worth the drive of 175 miles. The venue was suited to the concert, a modern, beautiful facility that was excellent. Well, just the name speaks for itself as for Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Their music is on par with other greats like James Taylor, Chicago, Neil Diamond, and a few others whose songs NEVER get old and is timeless. When you go to a concert to hear a classic band, you expect to hear the songs that made them famous in their original form, and the Doobies never fail to deliver. J.D. and the Straight Shots put on a unique opening performance. However, at intermission I bought their CD so I could listen on the drive home, I didn't hear a single song that I didn't like. The album failed to capture the on disc failed to deliver the same energy that they displayed in the live performance. Maybe they are a better live band than they are a recording band, but was sadly disappointed. The blend of guitars, mandolin, fiddle, and upright bass made for a totally different approach to music that seemed to have a distinct Celtic/Bluegrass fusion that, in addition to the vocal harmonies, provided an infectious energy to their music. I'm no expert, but it seemed that the CD was poorly engineered, sounding thin and hollow. Overall, it was a GREAT show, and I'm glad we were able to be there. At any rate, I thought their live performance was very good, and would like to hear them live again to judge their consistency.
